Easter is the day to receive gifts which may include chocolate. Chocolate is not just yummy to us, but also to our dogs.  Chocolate is derived from the roasted seeds of the cacao plant. This plant contains two ingredients caffeine and theobromine that may cause various medical complications that may prove fatal to your dog. Symptoms of eating chocolate are vomiting, diarrhea, increased body temperature, rapid breathing, increased heart rate and seizures. If your dog is suspected of ingesting chocolate immediately notify your veterinarian. They will formulate a treatment plan according to the type of chocolate, how much was ingested and the time that it took place. So this Easter consider your curious four legged friend with their keen sense of smell and store your chocolate in a secure, safe place.

Happy Easter from all of us at the Vernon Veterinary Clinic
