Wintertime hazards when walking your dog

By January 10, 2018 Uncategorized

Wintertime brings us shortened daylight hours and not so nice sidewalk and road conditions. When we are taking our dog on their daily walk, make sure that traffic can see you. Wear bright clothes or clothes with reflective strips. There are reflective collars, leashes and vests available to make sure that your dog is visible to traffic.

Also consider the chemicals that are used on sidewalks and roadways. The main ingredients in most ice melting products are sodium chloride or calcium chloride. This substance can irritate their feet or if ingested, can cause digestive upset. Thoroughly clean your dog’s feet after walking or perhaps consider purchasing booties to eliminate chemical contact concerns.

Consider these precautions and enjoy your wintertime walks with your canine friend.
